Electric and Autonomous vehicles need protection from cyber threats as the growing charging infrastructure may give hackers an opportunity to manipulate charging currents to the vehicle. Also, in case of the autonomous vehicle a software hacking can provide an opportunity to the hackers to control the vehicle or breach vehicle data.
A manipulation of the charging current can cause battery degradation and if overcharged then a safety hazard caused by overheating of the cells.
An autonomous vehicle cyber attach can cause a human life threat if operated in non-confined area.
In this research project, we study the implications of cyber attacks and ways to improve vehicle cyber security.
